This method does work. For beginners to Zenoss needing more detailed 
instructions for the above mentioned method, here it is step by step:


   1. In a device or device class, click the drop-down page-menu.
   2. Select 'More...'. Then select 'Collector Plugins'.
   3. On this page, you want to remove the Collector Plugin called 
'zenoss.snmp.RouteMap'.
   4. Make sure to save after.
   5. These plugins set what routes are queried on a device upon modeling. If 
you do the change locally and just to a particular device effected, the plugin 
will still apply to all other devices.
   6. Delete all routes from the device (in the OS tab of the device)
   7. Add manually, any high-level routes that you want monitored
