The mysql database only holds event information, so if you don't want to back  
up events, you don't need to worry about the mysql database. ( and event if you 
did care you would probably want to dump the database to a file and not just 
backup the mysql datafile )

The data.fs holds everything else, device information, transforms , user info, 
alerts etc. Of course there are going to be some ties in the database to some 
installed zenpacks, so wherever you "restore" it too needs to be the same 
environment from where it came.
