Greetings...

If you are creating a message from the Zenoss Event Manager, then you should 
have access to most of the attributes of the event that triggers your message.  
You can access these using ${evt/IpAddress}, ${evt/summary}, and so on.  A 
table of available attributes is at 
http://www.zenoss.com/community/docs/zenoss-guide/2.4.2/apds03.html     Most of 
the info that you see on your device's Status page should be available using 
${dev/propertyName}, in your case the Rack Slot would be ${dev/rackSlot}, I'm 
pretty sure.
