I've been fooling around with implementing an SMS alerting system linked to Zenoss. While I'm betting a few of you have already implemented a web-based SMS alerting setup, has anyone tried doing it with a modem? The idea is that a web-based alerting solution is pretty darned useless if your link to the Internet is what's down. POTS lines, however, just plain work. So long as there's a UPS on the alerting server and its modem, I'll get my alerts for everything except an exploding server room.
What I've been able to find thus far is some very old -- but still usable -- SMS utilities that allow me to use a plain old dialup modem to send text messages...assuming I can find an SMS provider that maintains a dialup SMS gateway. We use AT&T, and they maintain such a gateway. I've even set up a test VM that send me some test SMS messages a few months back, so I know it works. Has anyone else gone down this road? What did you use? Any recommendations? -------------------- m2f -------------------- Read this topic online here: http://forums.zenoss.com/viewtopic.php?p=38108#38108 -------------------- m2f -------------------- _______________________________________________ zenoss-users mailing list [email protected] http://lists.zenoss.org/mailman/listinfo/zenoss-users
