No, uptimes should be monitored by default. Go to /Devices and then go to Templates. You should see a Devices template with a description something like "Template to monitor system uptime" or whatever. Make sure that that template is trickling down. The system uptime datapoint in that template needs to be applied to any other device templates for the uptime report to work properly.
