First, think on this:

Then, how about a command data source using wget and parse the output 
for your error? Then dump an error return?

Actually, you probably can also just use wget and use Event Mapping or 
Transforms to drop errors for error 98...

I don't actually know what output wget gives on errors though, but it 
looks possible from a quick google.
