I tried this setup using 2.4.2 with different collectors on every datacenter and centralize the dashboard. Currently on my end its working fine.
But in you case I've also did it on my test environment with different segment. Can you do this step on every collectors (slave) and make sure your config zope.conf is pointing to master.domain.com:8100. Then run this command on zenoss user; #zendmd Send me the output.
