I've got a situation where a device doesn't respond to pings reliably.
Sometimes the pings get through ok. Sometimes they don't. When creating an
Alert Rule I see that I can use the "Delay (secs)" feature and I'm wondering if
it will help me with this situation.

I'm not sure what the default polling interval is but let's assume that it's
120 seconds (2 minutes) for pings. If a device goes down at second 0 and at
second 1 Zenoss sends out a ping, then that device is down. If I set my "Delay
(secs)" feature to 300 seconds (5 minutes) and the device starts responding in
second 110, then on the second polling interval (at second 121) Zenoss now sees
the device as up. But there are still 180 seconds till the "Delay (secs)"
interval has elapsed.

My question is, will Zenoss recognize that the Clear condition has been met
before the "Delay (secs)" interval elapses and therefore not generate the Event
(and ultimately the associated email)? Or will I get an Event 5 minutes after
the device went down even though it's been up for 4 minutes?

Thanks,

Garrison
