Sadly FreeBSD just isn't really supported by Zenoss because there aren't that many users. You *can* get it to work, but it's somewhat Hacky as shown in the docs.
My recommendation would be to put your monitoring solution as sort of a black box - or at least with Zenoss, it's probably going to be the one thing you'll want to run on the box or VM due to it's resource load. So, to make things much easier, I'd just, for this app, install on top of CENTOS5.
