i am using 2.0.7, so my understanding is that exiting can leave messages stranded, correct?

Andrew,

does 0MQ provide any temporal guarantees about delivery of messages?
or a way to probe if all teh messages queued for a socket have been sent?

The trunk version of 0MQ doesn't exit while there are still messages to
be sent queued.

However, it's a new not yet released code and thus you can experience
some issues when using it.
