He was using a QUEUE device to connect PUSH/PULL sockets instead of the 
STREAMER device. Changing his choice of device solved the issue.

I am hopeful that 3.0 will throw errors when incompatible socket types are 
bound/connected together. Doing so would make this problem even more obvious. :)
