I think you're right that the idea is flawed. It would work for
coordinating a publisher with a known set of subscribers that all
start up at the same time, but it's useless for general use.

A real solution is considerably more complex though. Ch5 describes
Clone, which does a reliable pub sub based on distributing key/value
pairs.
