CRY statistics : Most pinching facts about India
"In truth, millions of India 's children are denied even the most basic rights
of survival and protection. CRY (Child Relief and You) has compiled some
statistics on the situation of children in India . This is based on its
experience of working on a range of children's issues across all regions of
India .
The statistics are grim. What is worse is that very little is known of what it
means to be part of such horrific numbers The task before society is huge and
we at CRY believe that every member of our society should take responsibility
for their plight and make a big difference to the children of our nation."
"About 60 million Indian children under the age of 6 live below the poverty
Every second child in the country is malnourished.
Almost 2 million children in India die every year before reaching their first

Only 60% of Indian children (the total child population below 14 is 228
million) reach 5th grade, and many of those 'completing' primary school cannot
read or write."
"In addition to the deaths of infants and children due to malnourishment and
disease, innumerable and unrecorded numbers of girl Children are killed within
hours of being born while many others are killed in the womb itself.

primary reasons that threaten survival of female children in India."

Millions of children work to help their families because the adults do not have
appropriate employment and income thus forfeiting schooling and opportunities
to play and rest.
Children also work because there is demand for cheap labor. High incidence of
child labor is a result of high incidence of adult unemployment.
Large numbers of children work simply because there is no alternative - since,
they do not have access to good quality schools.
Poor and bonded families often "sell" their children to contractors who promise
lucrative jobs in the cities and the children end up being employed in
brothels, hotels and domestic work. Many run away and find a life on the

   · Is this going to change? "India- 16.9% world population & just 2.4% of
global land." Only population is going change!!! & due to global warming land
is going to decrease!!!
   · The country seems to thrive on contradictions: India produces well over
300,000 engineers a year, but 700 million Indians lack access to toilets; top
Indian universities are among the world's most competitive, but nearly 40
percent of adults are illiterate; India now has Ferrari dealerships, but only
six percent of rural homes have telephone.
   · The conviction rate under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act is 15.71% and
pendency is as high as 85.37%. This when the Act has strict provisions aimed as
a deterrent. By contrast, conviction rate under IPC is over 40%.
Come forward friends & accept the reality & have couarge to bring INDIA
of all these contradictions. Also why is it only the duty of Dalits or poor
people to bring up these kind of facts about the reality, why castiest people
talk much about abolishment of caste only in TV interviews, why don't they
bring the true face of INDIAN society to the people? Come forward friends, read
& spread awareness among friends.
