BSP's doors open for upper castes as well: Mayawati

Apparently seeking to widen her party's base, Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati on Wednesday said the party's doors were open for all those people from upper castes who were willing to shed their "Manuvadi mindset".
"The doors of the BSP remain open for the upper cast who are prepared to shed the Manuwadi mindset," she told an election meeting of the BSP candidate Pramod Kumar Singh for the Varanasi (north) assembly seat bypoll to be held on June 2.
Mayawati said her party's ideology was not against the upper castes but the prevailing "Manuwadi system" in the society, which the party wanted to change for the benefits of all sections, including the upper castes.
The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said her party's outlook towards the upper castes could be gauged by its decision to field candidates from these castes in assembly and parliamentary elections.
"Moreover, several leaders from upper castes have also been accomodated in the party structure in various capacities," she added.
