PIL on SC/ST Act filed
The High Court ordered notices to the State government, police authorities, National Commission for SC/ST and the commissioner for social welfare in a public interest litigation complaining about the non-implementation of the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
It was filed by the Sakshi Human Rights Watch and the Dalitha Bahujana Sra-mika Union.
They complained that the provisions of the act were not being implemented and victims were not being paid compensation. The bench directed the respondents to file counter petitions within five weeks. The bench posted the matter to March 8.
