MYSORE: Former union minister V Srinivasa Prasad criticised Infosys Chairman Narayana Murthy for allegedly opposing the demand for reservation in the private sector.
He said that Murthy was very much aware of the social problems and economic status of the underprivileged sections, but maintained that they would give prominence only to talent.
He was speaking after inaugurating a special lecture on Constitution Day celebrations organised by the B R Ambedkar Research and Extension Centre here on Thursday.
He called Narayana Murthy a black American. ‘‘Though, we were liberated from British rule, we are now ruled by black Americans.
“How can Dalits and people from poor socio-economic backgrounds get work when they are deprived of jobs in the government sector,’’ he asked.
He said that there was no difference between Bill Gates and Narayana Murthy. ‘‘Murthy, born and bought up in India and aware of the social status of less privileged sections is against reservation in the private sector.
“When China, Korea, Japan and other countries can take on challenges of globalisation, why can’t India rise to the occasion and dominate the world economy,’’ he asked.
He stated that the Dalits need to be more involved and use their talent and intellect to increase production.
He disclosed that they had demanded that the Constitutional Review Committee, headed by retired Supreme Court chief justice Venakatachala incorporate reservation in the private sector as they are not from an asset-owning community.
