I agree. I think Ambedkarites should adopt the Islamic practice of zakat.
If everybody will contribute small amounts, it will all add up, and we
need not go begging for help.
The Sakya Foundation here in Chennai has started a hostel for
children who lost a parent (or two) in the Tsunami and who have been
denied all help by the government on the grounds that they are not of the
fisherfolk caste. This hostel has been operative for many months, yet
very, very few people have come forward to help. All appeals go unheaded.
While we might expect such behaviour from caste Hindus, the sad reality is
that almost EVERYBODY is unconcerned - Ambedkarites, Dalits, Christians,
Hindus, Muslims ... It looks like Hindu indifference (which is mistaken
widely for "tolerance") has been internalised and digested by ALL
communities.
