Kalekuris call to Dalits
Monday February 13 2006 11:57 IST
KAKINADA: Noted writer Kalekuri Prasad has called upon the Dalits to fight for recognition of the age-old Dalit literature, which is older than Telugu language itself.
Addressing a seminar on Dalit Sahityodyamam and its history held by Jana Chaitanya Mandali here on Sunday at Amdbedkar Bhavan, Prasad said that the Government and intellectuals were counting the age of Telugu language which was translated by Nannayya Bhattaraka more than thousand years ago, but Dalits have had their own literature, songs and culture much before the Nannayya.
He said the Government was fighting for recognition of Telugu language as a classical one, but at the same time it was neglecting the Dalit literature and culture.
Dalit poet Koyi Koteswara Rao (Nizamabad district) said that only Dalit poets could see the beauty of labour.
Nallagattu-Nandivardhanam Chettu, a poem book writen by Sikhamani, was released on the occasion.
While Jana Chaitanya Mandali State convenor P Pavan Prasad presided over the function, Venkateswara University professor N Ravi Kumar, Savera and others participated.
