The Punjab BJP leaders today presented three young Dalit women at a press conference here, alleging that the women were molested and tortured by the police inside the Malout police station in Muktsar district.
The Dalit women of Johar village, identified as Amarjit Kaur, Virpal Kaur and Rani, told reporters that they were picked up by 10-12 policemen during night hours and taken to the Malout police station, where their clothes were removed and they were beaten and electrocuted.
When the village Sarpanch Balwant Singh, also a Dalit, went to the police station to lodge a complaint, he was also beaten by the same policemen, Punjab BJP general
secretary Vijay Sampla told reporters.
He said the incident happened twice as Amarjit Kaur and her sister-in-law Virpal Kaur were tortured at the police station in December, while Rani remembered that she had been tortured in a similar manner at the same police station on February six.
The matter came the notice of the BJP when a local paper in Malout published the incident of the alleged torture of these women, Mr Sampla said.
The women at the press conference alleged that they were victimised at the behest of local politicians Bhupinder and Jasbir of the same village, who were forcing them to join the flesh trade.
''We have been victimised because we refused to accompany them for immoral acts,'' said Amarjit Kaur.
Mr Sampla and other leaders including BJP Youth Wing national executive member Vineet Joshi and the party's SC Cell chief Rajesh Bagha told reporters that they would move the Punjab State Human Rights
Commission and the Punjab State Women's Commission tomorrow for justice to these women, whose plea for an FIR against the erred cops was allegedly denied by the police at Malout.
