Dear friends,

Have you seen the documentary called “Lesser Humans”? If not, please watch
it. I got a copy of it from Br Naresh Barsagade when I had attended Ambedkar
Birthday celebrations in Bay area a few months ago. Please let me know if
anyone wants a copy. While watching it, I had to close my eyes many a time. I
showed it to a few of my American friends and they were unable to understand
the gravity of situation. Now, “Frontline” came with a cover story on Manual
scavenging. Please check it at http://flonnet.com/
It had interviews and statements from Br Bezwada Wilson and Br Martin Macwan.

Also, I am glad to inform you that I had an opportunity to talk to Br Bezwada
Wilson of Safai Karamchari Andolan over phone last night. As you all know, he
is helping us to identify beneficiaries for our new scholarship program for
children from Scavenging families, the brain child of Prof Shiva Shankar,
Madras.

Contrary to my thinking Br Wislon is two years younger to me (41 years) and
delighted to hear what he had accomplished at such an young age. I am amazed to
hear that he had been working in the field for the past 21 years. How great to
know such a personality! Another interesting thing is that Br Bezwada came from
the same scavenging community and worked as a manual scavenger as a child along
with all his siblings. Who knows the condition of these unfortunate humans
better than Br Wilson?

If anyone wants to help us, please come forward and support one or two
scholarships.

  With regards
  Benjamin
