Dalit outfit demands filling of SC/ST backlog vacancies Chennai, Feb 16 (PTI): Puthiya Thamizhagam, a Dalit outfit, today alleged that a majority of vacancies reserved for Dalits in Tamil Nadu remain unfilled and announced that it would stage protest demonstrations all over the State on March 7, demanding filling up of the backlog . Party president K Krishnasamy told reporters here that nearly four lakh jobs should have been given to Dalits, as per statistics. "This is not actually the case and only 10 per cent of the jobs have been filled", he said. He said some affluent people in Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram districts were trying to grab land given to Narikurava tribes there and urged the government to protect their lands. The tribes had settled in those lands and started sending their children to schools also, he added. He expressed satisfaction with the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal's verdict and appealed to the state government to take steps for its early implementation. "I will express my opinion in the all-party meet convened by the government on February 19," he said.
