Mangalore: Seminar for dalits on Feb 18 Mangalore Feb 15: Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Employee's Reservation Protection Federation will hold a seminar on the recent Supreme Court judgment on the exclusion of creamy layer of dalits from reaping the benefit of reservation policy, at Ravindra Kalabhavan on Sunday at 10.30 am. Speaking to presspersons on Wednesday, federation president M Devdas said the seminar will also discuss on the Apex Court's recent order that 9th schedule laws are open to judicial review. Devdas said the court order is detrimental to the interest of dalits. He further pointed out that able and qualified youth are available in the economically developed families of the community and hence if the creamy layer is kept out of reservation, they would be affected, on the whole. And as per the opinion given in Jan by the nine judge bench of the Supreme Court that there could not be any blanket immunity from judicial review of laws inserted in the 9th Schedule of the Constitution, he said. The seminar will also discuss the impact of these orders on the society, he added. High Court senior advocate and Backward Classes Welfare Commission former president Prof Ravikumar will present his views on these issues. Former M P Vinay Kumar Sorake will inaugurate the seminar. Federation honorary president Doddamahadevaiah, MLA N Yogish Bhat, Bahujan Samajwadi Party State general secretary Sridhar Kaliveer, JDS district president K B Balaraj Rai and Mangalore University registrar Sundar Naik will be present.
