'SC, ST enrolment in schools is rising' Statesman News Service NEW DELHI, May 19: Enrolment of SCs and STs at primary school level has grown at a much higher pace in comparison to the general population between 1980-81 and 2004-05, according to a new study. Presented here at the conference on "empowerment of scheduled castes, scheduled tribes and minorities through elementary education", the study also found that dropout rates of children belonging to marginalised sections including SCs and STs have registered a steep decline. Efforts by the government to improve the participation of SC and ST children is reflected in increased enrolment at primary and upper primary levels of education, Prof. Ved Prakash, vice-chancellor, National University of Education Planning and Administration, said in a paper on elementary education for empowerment of socially disadvantaged groups. SC and ST enrolment at primary and upper primary levels of education as well as for the entire elementary education period during 1980-81 to 2004-05 has shown a consistent increase for both and girls, he said.
