Tension in Talhan after tiff between Jat, Dalit boys Express News Service Talhan (Jalandhar) June 14: Tension prevailed in Talhan village after a scuffle between two groups of boys from Jat and Dalit communities. A case has been registered against seven identified and 50 unidentified boys. The trouble started on Wednesday when two boys, Kuljit Singh and Mandeep Singh, of the Jat community had a scuffle with Maninder, a Dalit, at a barber's shop in the village. On this, Maninder and his supporters allegedly threatened both the Jat boys. However later, both the parties called truce on the intervention of Panchayat. Villagers said armed supporters of Maninder did recce of the village last evening to create tension. They added that some people tried to give the incident a communal colour. Today morning, the situation became tense when Mandeep and Kuljit brought about 50 supporters from nearby villages and gathered in front of Maninder's house and pelted stones, said villagers. SHO Nirmal Singh said a case has been registered against 57 persons, including seven identified boys, and the situation was under control. Some police personnel have also been deployed in the village to maintain peace. The accused were absconding and the police were conducting raids to arrest them.
