Two Dalit Families were severely beaten and forced to leave village in
Orrisa State

The National Campaign on Dalit Human Rights (NCDHR) has received
information that two Dalit families forced to flee to another village in
Puri District of Orrisa state in India. The Case information is as
follows:

Dalits denied to beat drum in village temple at the time of festival and
to clean the dead animal in the village. Berua under Brahmagiri police
station in Puri district



On this the Dominant caste people seriously beaten and forced two Dalit
families to leave the village. District administration failed to send
back them to the village.



Now Dalits are sitting on indefinite Dharana( agitation) infront of
District Collector office. Till now Police has not registered FIR
against the accused.



The news published in daily "The Times of India" on dated 4th June 2007

National Campaign on Dalit Human Rights (NCDHR) is taking this case of
atrocity on Dalit families very seriously and organizing a fact finding
team. Soon this team will visit the incident village and will find the
facts. NCDHR will get back with a Fact Finding report shortly.
