Dalit, non-dalit exchange tika [ 2007-10-24 ] JHALARI, Kanchanpur, Oct. 23: Offering Tika and Jamara between the Dalit and non-Dalit people concluded in Jhalari for the first time on the occasion of the Dashain festival. The programme was organized to end racial discrimination and untouchability. At the programme organized by the Far-western Samaj Sangh Jhalari, Chairman of the Sangh, Prakash BC said such programmes will end the racial discrimination. Also present on the occasion were NC Constituency President Dil Bahadur Air, and Govind Nepali of Janamorcha. The Tharus of Far-Western Region received tika from the village Bhalamasa and Guruwa at the Badaghar. Those receiving tika also showed the dances of sakhiya chhoka and hurdangawa jhumra at the Badaghar. Continuity has been given to the tradition of having a feast in the Badaghar by all the people of the village, said Dhan Bahadur Chaudhari of Simalphanta. They also observed what they call 'ghur jharne' as they serve meat and alcohol, said Hawaldar Chaudhari of BASE, an organisation. The tradition is prevalent in Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali and Kanchanpur. The freed Kamaiyas also received tika in the Badaghar. In Bardibas, A 60-year old Sogarath Yadav, a resident of Hariharpur Harinmari of Mahottari district has grown Jamara on his chest while wishing for lasting peace in the country. Sowing seeds of Jamara on the first day of Dashain festival, Ghatasthapana in solitary ashram of Bighi river near village, Yadav has wished for sustainable peace in the country. He grew Jamara on his chest for nine days of nine nights of Nabaratri and will give to villagers after breaking fasting on the day of Dashami. In Madhyapur Thimi, Bramahini Pith mela has concluded last night that is celebrated on the occasion of the Vijya Dashami in Bhaktpur. There was big crowd of devotees at the mela from various VDCs including Bhaktapur, Tathali, Sudal, Bageswori, Chittapol, Sipadol, Namkhel, and Gudul. There was a remarkable presence of devotees from Kathmandu and Lalitpur district. Several Devotees visit temple by burning light lamps in their bodies to fulfill their wishes. In Bhaktapur, a great fair started in one of the famous shrines of Bhaktapur, Bramhayani temple. A big fair takes place here on the day of Bijaya Dashami every year. The shrine is located at Bhaktapur Municipality Ward No. 1 and people hope of peace and prosperity if a darshan of the deity is taken, said the Nawadurga Temple Priest, Julal Karmacharya. Musical bands of Dhime Baja, flute and Dhan Baja also reached the temple from each toles of Bhaktapur from early morning. In Dhankuta, leader of the Nepali Congress and NC State Restructuring Committee Central Member Ananda Santoshi Rai has said the country has been at present polarized into republicans and monarchists. He said this in an exchange of greeting programme organized on the occasion of Bijaya Dashami at Dangsingh by the Nepali Congress. On the occasion, Rai said eventhough there is polarization, the popular opinion is rising for the republic, which indicates that it would be soon established in the country. In Bhaktapur, the traditional cultural festival of Nikuthu Mey (he-buffalo) of Bhaktapur observed on the night of Mahasatami, the eighth day of Bada Dashain, concluded here. The culturally important festival is observed regarding the he-buffalo as the symbol of demon Mahisasur. The Jatra is organized from Byasi of Bhaktapur to the Taleju Temple at Durbar Square, and the people welcome it on the way, said one local Krishna Prasad Suwal. Twenty five he-buffaloes were sacrificed at the temple after the worship of Goddess Taleju. In Tulsipur, Dang, a reception and greetings exchange programme has been organised by the civil society here in Lamahi, Deukhuri on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami and Deepwali. At the programme presided over by Co-ordinator of the society, Mitramani Sharma, speakers pointed out that the nation should find an outlet through special session of the house scheduled to be held on Kartik 12 while ending differences among the seven political parties. Besides, they also demanded that the status of jouranlist, Birendra Shah, who was kidnapped from Bara be made public soon while a stern action against the culprits be taken soon. Various speakers also expressed their views on the occasion.
