JAYA (MDS16)
Withdraw decision on 60% marks for scholarship

CHENNAI, FEB 8 (PTI)
AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa today asked the Centre to withdraw its
decision to make 60 per cent marks compulsory for Plus-two students of
SC/ST communities to get scholarships, saying it would hinder their
higher studies.

Referring to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's remarks that he had
written to the Centre on the issue, she said in a statement that the
Government should have condemned the decision, instead of merely
writing a letter.

"The Chief Minister's attempt to while away time by writing letters
instead of taking steps to secure the rights of SC/ST students will
only amount to rolling out a red carpet to the Centre's decision," she
charged.
