NEW DELHI: The opposition to the 'Mahadalit Commission' formed by the
Bihar government grew louder with the Lok Janshakti Party on Wednesday
accusin
g the ruling JD(U)-BJP combine in the state of trying to divide the
Dalit community through it.

LJP chief and Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan told reporters, "It is
indeed unconstitutional and the National Commission for Scheduled
Castes (NCSC) has rightly described it so. They knew that they cannot
get votes of Paswan and others SC castes. Hence they formed the
Mahadalit Commission to create divisions."

The comments of the dalit leader from Bihar come a day after the NCSC
dubbed the 'Mahadalit Commission' constituted by Bihar chief minister
Nitish Kumar as "unconstitutional". Paswan said though the commission
in Bihar was constituted to divide SCs, he did not oppose it as it
could have been misconstrued by a group of Dalits that he was against
their development.

"Today they have created a Mahadalit Commission. Tomorrow they will
form an Ati Dalit Commission. This is all politics. But all these
things are not going to benefit them," he said.
