Kandhamal: Paswan calls for CBI probe Statesman News Service BHUBANESWAR, Oct 14: Lok Janashakti Party leader Mr Ram Vilas Paswan today said the Kandhamal riots were part of the Sangha Parivar's pre-election design. "Let the CBI probe into the riots," he said. Calling for a ban on Bajrang Dal and VHP, Mr Paswan said: "The Orissa chief minister claims he has arrested several persons belonging to these organisations. If he holds them responsible for the riots, then he should recommend a ban instead of merely stating after the NIC that it is for the Centre to take a decision. There should also be a ban on public display of arms as tridents". The RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal were creating trouble in several parts of the country and the 'PM in waiting' Mr L K Advani presented a 'secular face' by issuing joint statements with minority community leaders, Mr Paswan alleged. Addressing a Press conference here today, he said it was absolutely wrong to colour the Kandhamal riots as a fight between dalits and tribals. The poor do not fight and kill each other. It is the communal elements who were creating trouble, he charged. On President's Rule in Orissa, Mr Paswan said several parties were ideologically opposed to the use of Art 356. The LJP leader said arguments equating the violence in Maharashtra and Assam to the ones that took place in Orissa and Karnataka do not hold good. Earlier, Mr Paswan said minorities of Kandhamal were being threatened even in relief camps. "They are being told that if they want to return to their villages, they should first re-convert," he said. He lambasted the BSP, describing it as an opportunist party. "Bahujan became Brahman and then Sarvajan only to suit electoral requirements. The BSP has forgotten the dalits," he said.
