Rahul pays visit to Dalits' houses

Kanpur, Oct 24 : Continuing with the practice of interacting with
Dalits at their homes, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi today
visited the house of some Dalits and Muslims at Ambedkar Basti amid a
day-long hectic schedule here.

It was not less than a dream come true for Khurshid Begum and
Gangadhar Qureel at the basti in Jajmau area, when Mr Gandhi stepped
into their huts and also had a cup of tea with them, reports said.

''Mr Gandhi had a cup of tea prepared by me at my house and even
praised it and played with my niece,'' said Khurshid Begum talking to
UNI later.

Expressing happiness on the visit of the leader, she said ''I yearned
to meet Mr Gandhi...my lifelong dream has been fulfilled now,'' a
gleeful Khurshid added.

Narrating her meet, she quoted the young MP as saying ''you are my
sister and what do you want from me,'' to which I replied ''to have a
cup of tea with you.'' Likewise, Mr Gandhi visited the house of one
Gangadhar Qureel, a shoemaker.

Qureel said the Amethi MP enquired about his work and source of income
and also praised him after seeing a pair of shoes made by him.

It is not the first visit of Mr Gandhi to any Dalit's house.

Earlier too, he had met Dalits at their houses and even spent a night
at a Dalit's hut in Amethi. The Congress General Secretary had also
met some Dalit families in Jhansi once.
