Paswan announces formation of National Dalit Front 3 Nov 2008, 2020 hrs IST, PTI NEW DELHI: LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan has announced the formation of a National Dalit Front (NDF) — a move apparently aimed at clipping the wings of BSP supremo Mayawati ahead of the assembly elections in six states and the Lok Sabha polls early next year. The Front will have noted social and political leaders from all states as its members and will work for the cause of the Dalits, Paswan told reporters here. Asked whether NDF has been formed to counter BSP in Uttar Pradesh, the LJP chief on record replied in the negative, but chose to attack BSP's changing stand on Dalit politics. "Earlier Mayawati talked of Bahujan. Now she talks of Sarvajan. She has now pushed Dalits into the hands of the Manuvadis. Atrocities against Dalits have increased in Uttar Pradesh since she became chief minister," Paswan said. NDF, headed by Paswan, will hold its first national conference here on November 15 to bring Dalit leaders from across the country under one platform. Republican Party of India (RPI) chief Ramdas Athawale has been made working president of the Front, Dalit Sena chief and LJP MP Ramchandra Paswan the vice president and Indian Justice Party chief Udit Raj the general secretary. Sources also said that a number of political leaders from Dalit communities including from south India have already showed their willingness to joint NDF. Although, the leaders stressed on NDF being a non-political platform, the political undertone was clear. Exhorting Dalits across the country to be united, Udit Raj said, "NDF will fight for Dalit issues including reservation for them in private sector, separate fund for their development in proportion to their population and formation of a National Judicial Commission to ensure reservation to them in judicial services." ------------------------------------ ---- INFORMATION OVERLOAD?
