Protests against 'purification' in Rajasthan
11 Feb 2009, 2116 hrs IST, TNN

AJMER: Extra police forces were deployed in Rajasthan's Tiloli village
which witnessed strong protests on Wednesday against humiliation of
Dalits
who were asked to "purify'' themselves by drinking cow urine to attend
a `yagna'.

Bhilwara district administration also began recording the statement of
villagers about the incident.

Members of Ambedker Manch, a Dalit organization, gathered at the
divisional headquarters here and shouted slogans against
"untouchability'' and upper caste members who allegedly made the
"purification'' demand. The manch threatened to launch an agitation if
no action is taken within a week against those involved.

"We want a case to be registered against those who still believe in
untouchability,'' said Desh Raj Megwanshi, the manch's president. BJP
MLA Anita Bhadel condemned the incident and asked the chief minister
to order a high-level probe.
