Delhi University (DU) has received Rs 33.74 crore from the government
as part of the Rs 100 crore package promised to it last year by the
then finance minister P Chidambaram in his budget speech. The Rs 100
crore was a special package granted to the central university after it
was declared an institution of excellence in last year's budget.

The grant was allocated to the university following a communication
from the Vice Chancellor's office for a faster disbursal of the same
to undertake the infrastructure expansion plans in view of the OBC
reservation. Deepak Pental, Vice Chancellor, DU, said that, work would
begin on priority basis. He said that, the funds would be used to
consolidate the Faculty of Management (FMS) and the building hosting
the mathematical sciences.

Pental also told that, a portion of the fund would help the university
to implement the OBC reservation. The university has also set aside a
part of the fund to equip its laboratories with new scientific
equipments for M Tech courses, he added. Among other plans, following
the full disbursal of the grants, the university would start investing
in developing infrastructure at the teaching and research level.
