Guj Assembly passes bill on SC, ST reservation STAFF WRITER 22:24 HRS IST Gandhinagar, Dec 18 (PTI) Following in the footsteps of the Centre, Gujarat Assembly today passed the Constitutional Amendment Bill for extending the period of reservations to SCs and STs by another 10 years. The bill was introduced by Chief Minister Narendra Modi under Assembly rule 100. After it was passed in the Lok Sabha, every state Assembly was required to pass the bill in order to amend the Constitution and extend the reservation benefits to these categories. Earlier, Leader of Opposition Shaktisinh Gohil had demanded that the bill be introduced in the current session of the House, as the Centre had already passed it. While introducing the bill, Modi said framers of the constitution had introduced the reservation systems for downtrodden sections like STs and SCs and due to reservations, they have been brought in the mainstream of society.
