Maya wants Ambedkar corridor April 7th, 2010 DC Correspondent UP Lucknow, April 6: Continuing her initiative to immortalise Dalit icons, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Ms Mayawati now plans to build an Ambedkar Corridor in the heart of the state capital. The proposed Ambedkar Corridor that will extend from the Kalidas Marg crossing to the Gandhi Setu will have shopping complexes, parks, multiplexes and hotels. The Haider Canal that flows through the land on which the corridor is proposed, will be shifted further in to make way for the construction. Though not a single official in the state government was ready to confirm the project, a government official on condition of anonymity said the land use would have to be changed as the area earmarked for the corridor is presently defined as a green belt. Besides, the existing office of the DGP, some private bungalows and a portion of the government residential colony would also have to be demolished to make way for the project. “The CM is treading cautiously this time as she does not want legal hurdles to come up in the way of this project,” the official said. ------------------------------------ ---- INFORMATION OVERLOAD?
