Hi, This announcement is being crossposted to all ZEST lists because this is about a ZEST event. If you plan to attend the event, please confirm in advance.
The ZEST groups bring together people with similar interests ranging from current affairs to poetry, though there is very little member participation in most ZEST groups. It makes sense to have an offline meet once in a while, and any member is welcome to initaite such a meet in his or her city. To begin with, we have tied up with Creativegarh [ http://www.creativegarh.com ] for an offline meet in Delhi. The date, venue and time first. Date: Saturday, the 2nd of July 2005 Venue: FAD Kitchen and Bar, M-71, GK II, M-Block Market, New Delhi 110048 Time: 7 pm onwards Payment: You pay for what you drink / eat. So, what's different about this meet? Is it a typical 'networking' event? Well, yes and no. Yes, because in addition to the usual average of about 35-40 members who have attend the Creativegarh offliners in the past, we expect a lot more people to attend this time. So, new faces, new interests and new ideas could lead to newer opportunities for all of us. And no, it's not a networking event because this time, we have something very special lined up for you that will make this evening a very memorable one spent with friends and great music. Great music? Yes! Specially for the event, Valentine Shipley has agreed to entertain us with his unique style of music. To introduce Val's music, many of his fans say that he is Pink Floyd and Indian Ocean rolled into one. Val is an exponent of Sufi music and is as comfortable with Rock as he is with RD Burman. A guitarist par excellence, Val has played extensively with Parikrama - arguably India's finest rock band and has toured the country with Silk Route. Val's first single 'Ganga Nahale' features in a compilation called 'Euphoric Sufis' brought about recently by Times Music. The album also features Abida Praveen, Kailash Kher, Shubha Mudgal, Sandeep Chowta and Indian Ocean among others. His instrumental albums in which he has played the best of Jagjit Singh and RD Burman on the guitar has been in music stores for the last 3 years while his first solo album Wandering Mystic' will soon be released by Times Music. His next album, Kayenaath is also set to go on the production floor. Val has studied music, communication and radio broadcasting at Cambridge University. While in London, he worked with the BBC and also got initiated in the Asian underground music scene. He has traveled all across Europe and has played with various pop, rock, ethnic, folk and jazz outfits. Val is also the founder member of the now famous 'friends of music', the only music club of its kind in this country to provide a platform to young artists for the promotion of original music and bringing together performers from various genre of music on a common platform. Specially for the Creativegarh-ZEST Offliner, Val has agreed to come with his guitar and his insanity and we hope this will be a great opportunity for everyone to listen to one of the finest musicians in our country. And Val will also answer any questions that you would have about music and the music industry as a whole for he has been there, done that. To confirm your participation, please send a quick mail to me at lists[at]shivamvij[dot]com or call me at 0.9891783477.
