Sigh ! If only...Fukuoka (Japan) helped Delhi conserve water What if Delhi's water woes could be solved effectively? A model could well be Fukuoka in Japan which practices effective water demand management. Without abundant water resources and subject to serious periodic droughts, Fukuoka faced an enormous challenge in securing a stable water supply to serve its over 1.3 million people. To respond to this crisis, Fukuoka in partnership with the citizens and private sector launched various initiatives promoting a Water Conservation Conscious City . Under this scheme, several innovations and measures were implemented. Water-saving apparatus were introduced and currently approximately 96% of users have water flow reducing devices installed in their facets. Water savings have been realized with an average family saving up to 1,000 liters per month.
