Probe black money in media, says ex-minister

Dhaka - A former president and former law minister of Bangladesh have urged the government to probe 'black money' allegedly fuelling private television channels in the country.

Former law minister Kamal Hossain and former president A.Q.M. Badruddoza Chowdhury have joined opposition leader Sheikh Hasina to know the sources of 'black money', the Bangladesh Observer reported.

Several Bangladesh ministers and ruling party MPs who own TV channels and newspapers are reportedly worried they would have to declare these assets before the next parliamentary polls.

Many of these private TV channel owners have not yet made public their sources of wealth, the Observer reported.

Mosaddek Ali Falu, MP, is the owner of NTV (National Television), Rtv (Roja Television) and the Bengali daily Amar Desh.

Giasuddin Al-Mamoon, reputedly close to Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's son Tareq Rahman, is the owner of Channel-I. But hardly anyone knows the identity of other directors of these private channels.
