[ZESTMedia] Maldives: Ministry holds second meeting with press

Ministry holds second meeting with press TVM 05-06-2006 
Ministry of information and Arts has held the second in a series of meetings with the country's press.
 
During the meeting, proposals and opinions were presented for discussion by both the ministry and media side. Minister of Information and Arts Mohamed Nasheed presented eight papers to the meeting. They include the Maldives Media Association, and Maldives Institute of Mass Communication papers. A paper was also submitted on creating a national award for the field of journalism.

 
Representatives from the media at the meeting also presented a number of papers. These included issuing of a press pass that is recognized by the government and security forces, passage of the Journalists' Code of Ethics and implementation until the proper legal framework is set.

 
A total of 17 articles were submitted and discussion has been completed on three of those.
 
A seven-member committee was also elected at this meeting, to handle the process of registering the Maldives Media Association. 
 
The meeting took place at STELCO's training room and the next meeting in this series has been scheduled for 3 July 2006.
