High Court restrains media in Kavita Chaudhri murder case

Allahabad, Jan 9: Amid reports that black-mailing led to killing of a
Meerut lecturer, Kavita Chaudhari, the Allahabad High Court today
restrained print and electronic media from advertising, publishing and
broadcasting CDs, information and material relating to the case.

The order was passed by a two-judge bench of Justices A K Yog and
Prakash Krishna while hearing a writ petition filed by Merajuddin,
ex-minister in the Uttar Pradesh government who had resigned from his
post recently in the wake of the Kavita's killing.

The court also directed the central and the state governments to
restrain electronic and print media from publishing, broadcasting and
releasing any such information.

The petitioner had moved the court seeking direction to restrain the
media from publishing or displaying recorded CDs as referred to in
newspapers and bulletins of various TV channels linking him with
Kavita.

Granting four weeks time to the Union of India as well as the state
government to file their counter affidavits and two weeks thereafter
to the petitioner to file rejoinder, the court has ordered to list the
case immediately thereafter for final disposal.
