SAARC Editors` meet in Delhi to discuss media freedom

New Delhi, Feb 09: Senior representatives of media organisations of
SAARC countries will assemble here today to discuss key issues like
freedom of press and responsibility.

Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon will inaugurate the two-day SAARC
editors conference, the aim of which is to promote common
understanding on core media values, directions and orientations.

External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will address the concluding
session of the meet to be attended by 45 senior representatives of
media organisations of SAARC countries.

The major themes of the conference will be -- growth trends and
quality issues in South Asian news media, media freedom,
accountability and social responsibility and media & foreign policy.

The meet is being organised jointly by External Affairs Ministry and
NGO Media Development Foundation.
