BANGLADESH: Arrest warrant against Nowroj editor, executive editor, reporter Judge files defamation case against journalists over two recently published news stories The Daily Star Thursday, September 27, 2007 Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Salehuddin yesterday issued arrest warrants against the editor, executive editor and a reporter of the daily Nowroj after a judge filed a defamation case against them. Judge AKM Ishtiaque Hussain of Dhaka District and Sessions Judge's Court filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court against Editor Shamsul Haq Durrani, Executive Editor Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury and a staff reporter. In his complaint, the judge said the daily published two news items on September 20 and 23 against him which were false, fabricated and baseless. The news items were published to undermine his name, fame and reputation, he added. After the hearing, Magistrate Muhammad Salehuddin recorded statement of the complainant and issued arrest warrants against the accused. Date Posted: 9/27/2007
