TV viewers can file complaints New Delhi, Oct. 1: Unhappy with the skewed television coverage of the recent terror attacks which tended to paint the entire Muslim community as "terrorists"? Or angered by instances such as the recent Aarushi murder case. Beginning from Thursday, viewers unhappy with the content carried by news channels will have a forum they can approach with their complaints. The nine-member News Broadcasting Standards (Disputes Redressal) Authority will be functional from tomorrow under the chairmanship of the former chief justice of the Supreme Court, J.S.Verma. Justice Verma refused to say anything on the Authority before its launch. However, registering a complaint won't come cheap. With a steep fee of Rs 1,000 per complaint and with the Authority empowered to impose costs of up to Rs 10,000 on the complainant, it might discourage viewers from lodging complaints.
