SAFMA confce begins at Cox's Bazar tomorrow BSS, Dhaka A two-day regional conference of South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA) will begin at Cox's Bazar from February 10 with participation of 250 editors and senior journalists of the eight-member states of SAARC countries. Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Dipu Moni will inaugurate the conference at a local hotel while leading economist of the country Prof Rehman Sobhan will present the keynote paper on 'Democracy and Autocracy in South Asia', a press release said here yesterday. SAFMA President Reazuddin Ahmed will preside over the conference while secretary general of SAMFA Bangladesh Zahiduzzaman Faruq will deliberate the welcome speech. SAMFA secretary general Imtiaz Alam will describe the objective of the conference. The journalists of SAFMA from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Bhutan and Afghanistan will discuss the topics of 'Freedom of Media and Strengthening Democracy in South Asia'. Professor of International Relations Department of Dhaka University Imtiaz Ahmed will also discuss the topic, said the release.
