Mumbai --- "Had it not been for photographer Shriram Vernekar, we
wouldn't have got crucial evidence to link terrorist Ajmal Kasab with
the 26/11terror strikes,'' said chief minister Ashok Chavan after
presenting awards to 13 braveheart photojournalists at a function at
Press Club in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Chavan said every photographer who captured Mumbai during the terror
strike, had risked his or her life in the line of duty. "It was a
nightmare which we hope will never be repeated,'' he said. There is a
lot of expectation from the new government, which was ready to
overcome the crisis, he added.

Two TOI photographers, Shriram Vernekar and Tejal Pandey, and two
Mumbai Mirror photographers, Sebastian D'Souza and Sachin Haralkar,
were honoured at the event, where a calendar bearing award-winning
photographs was also released.
