UNESCO invites journalists and media organizations to exchange experiences and best practices in developing and implementing policies that guarantee equality for female journalists. Deadline: April 15. The comments, submitted to UNESCO's Web site, will be featured as part of "Women Make the News 2009,” an annual global initiative advocating gender equality in the media and launched in conjunction with International Women's Day. This year, Women Make the News seeks to highlight best practices and encourage media organizations to promote gender equality. As part of this initiative, UNESCO also collaborated with the International Federation of Journalists and Swedish trade unions, LO-TCO, in launching a handbook that provides guidance on how to address gender discrimination in the media.
