Community radio stations invited to join Voices Without Frontiers campaign Posted on: 04/03/2009
Radio Deadline: 13/03/2009 Region: Worldwide The 2009 Radio Voices Without Frontiers (RVSF) will be held March 21, and organizer AMARC is calling on all community radios around the world to take part in the international broadcast campaign. The General Assembly of the United Nations declared March 21 as the International Day for the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, as a reaction to the murder of 69 anti-apartheid demonstrators in Sharpeville, South-Africa, in 1960. One of AMARC's goals is to reinforce the socially inclusive ethos of the community radio sector, and promote access to the media by minority and disadvantaged groups. Multilingual broadcast exploring issues of racism, discrimination and gender issue will be transmitted via Internet and satellite by radio stations in five continents. To participate, radio stations may: Submit already produced or original audio material related to racism and discrimination. Submission deadline: March 13. Re-broadcast programs on their radio stations via satellite or the Internet. Link-up with the RVSF team live. Dedicate March 21 as their focus day against racism. Promote the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Produce a public service announcement for March 21. Help organize the event in their regions: translate, phone, fax, design, etc. Contribute anti-racism resource material for the RVSF Web site.
