Indian Express Group wins cybersquatting case at WIPO

The Indian Express Group has won a cybersquatting case against one
Sanjeev Saluja of Bangkok at the the World Intellectual Property
Organisation which has ordered transfer of domain name
'indianexpress.mobi' to the media house.



According to the information available with the WIPO, the Geneva-based
WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center has ordered the transfer of
domain name to the Indian media house after a WIPO-appointed panel
found that Saluja "registered and used the disputed domain name in bad
faith".



The Indian Express Online Media Pvt Ltd and the Indian Express Ltd,
both belonging to Indian Express Group, had challenged registering of
domain name indianexpress.mobi by Saluja at WIPO stating that it was
identical and confusing with its trademark on which the company has
rights.



Cybersquatting is an illegal activity of buying and officially
recording an address on the internet that is the name of an existing
company or an well-known person, with the intention of selling it to
the owner in order to make money.

The Indian Express Group publishes several newspapers in English as
well as in some Indian languages including The Indian Express, The
Financial Express (both English dailies),
