Hi Anand

(general info: there are two Anands on this list)

> 'Poetry' and 'Databases' don't quite go together now, do they?

They don't. Just that Yahoo! Groups has a useful feature
called 'Database'. It's just like having a database of the poetry
section in a library!

> I really liked some of the more 'poetic' entires that people sent
in.

Sure, your call. I'm not imposing this on anyone. I was just
expressing what I thought, and you are free to disagree, and to
write your bio the way you want to. I thoroughly loved Vivek's hilarious bio!

Anand I did clarify this. I had posted a mail ("Has Plato become our
President?") asking why members don't post poetry (their own and
others') on this group anymore. One member told me in person
(at Jeet Thayil's reading in Sarai) and one on IM chat that they
are uncomfortable "reading poetry in an empty room"; that is, they
need to know each other before they can share their personal
experience in verse.

If any doubts remain about the purpose of this 'Database', they
should be cleared by the subject of this thread: "Getting to know
each other"!

Those of you who haven't yet sent your bios, please do.

By the way, here's mine:

Shivam Vij hails from Lucknow and is presently pursuing an undergraduate degree
in literature at St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi. As the finer
mysteries of litcrit evade him, he is taking time to find his real calling in
life. It will be either journalism or activism. Amongst his saner ambitions are
being an government intelligence agent.

He is the initiator of the ZEST Groups, a contributor at the mediawatch website
www.thehoot.org, prsently a Sarai-CSDS fellow, a volunteer with
www.stopragging.org, and an occasional content writer/editor.

He wishes he could delete all his google search entries barring a few, and
create them anew.

He does not write poetry, an occasionally reads Indian English poets. He owes
his nascent poetic sensibilities to his Head of the Department in College!

Cheers
Shivam
