Wow. That slew of bios has my inbox brimmeth-ing over. I enjoy writers' autobios immensely - who doesnt - the trivia, the mundane, the mellifluous... I heard someone say that since cybersex was discovered no one has had to tell the truth about themselves. With writers and poets I guess its the truthspeak thats the rush. Thank you all for nakeding yourselves so diversely and aesthetically. (I enjoy neologisms and a lot of my work involves writing about sexuality, so that explains things....)
A tip o' the nib to Vivek. Thank you for that set you sent, I enjoyed them all immensely. But I find it somewhat laboured to dissect poetry so I shall just tell you what it makes me feel. Being more proseaic than poetic m'self I really enjoyed Ode To..it was very inspiring. "but on other days the dark pebbly-smooth noun-stones in a well of prose will do; prose straining towards the spirit of prose, prose that rarely walks unplanted...." But the line that really got me was... "that prose is the mat we slept on, the only heart we can trust if only because it beat so firmly" - this makes sense to me now as I smoke endlessly and sit terrified before a blank screen with all the magnum opuses inside me like a bastard child. And strain to hear its distant heartbeat. And believe in its humanity.
And as for Death Wish, reading it was like an encounter with a Big Friendly Giant! Great stuff.
